Welcome to our Maple Class pages

Our class teacher is Mrs Box and our teaching assistants are Mrs Ingham and Miss Lawrence. Our webpage is where you will find information and updates about all the exciting work and events that have taken place in Maple Class this year.

Our classroom is a wonderful place to be: a learning environment filled with exceptional examples of our work and fabulous resources to help our understanding.

Make sure you have a look at the photo gallery below to see what we have been doing.

As Year 6 is the last year in primary school, our aim is for every pupil to develop greater independence in preparation for the transition to secondary school. Year 6 children are encouraged to take on extra roles of responsibility and act as role models to our younger pupils in school, demonstrating the school's core values.

Spring Project

Our project for this term is

"How has the Shang Dynasty Influenced Modern China?"

We have been studying both Ancient and Modern China in order to compare and contrast them. During the project, we have created newspaper reports about the start of the Shang Dynasty and the use of oracle bones for divination.

In D.T. we have created Chinese shadow puppets and linked this to our work on light and shadows.

We are currently writing stories based on a Chinese animation 'Big Fish and the Begonia'.

Summer Project

Our project for this term is

"What Will Be Our Legacy?"

We will be looking at our influence on the world around us and what we want to leave behind - both in school and on the planet. As a part of this, we will be looking at what we can do to improve the global issue of 'plastic in our oceans'. This will involve us writing letters and investigating persuasive writing techniques.

As part of our transition into secondary school, we will be looking at the impact we have had on Caistor Primary in our time here and creating a sculpture to leave behind along with a time capsule. We will also be revamping some of the outside areas around school.

It is expected that our pupils read at least three times a week at home. National Literacy Trust research shows that young people who read outside of the classroom are 13 times more likely to read above the expected level for their age. Through reading a wide variety of books, children's work across the curriculum is much improved.

Look out for ClassDojo!

ClassDojo is a simple, safe and confidential classroom management app that helps teachers and parents/carers keep in touch. Children are also able to share with their parent/carer how many Dojo rewards they have earned for good work and progress, being polite, kindness and many other achievements that make our children feel proud.
