Welcome to Cherry Class
We are a lovely group of 31 Year 4 children. Our class teacher is now called Mrs Darwood and our teaching assistant is called Mrs Johnson. We pride ourselves on being polite and hardworking.
We have an exciting term ahead of us. Our topic is 'Angry Earth' and it kicked off with an explosive start. We got our creative juices flowing with some list, free verse and narrative poetry and are now published authors after writing and illustrating our own volcano narratives. We have also started our Volcano Home Reading Challenge to reach 50 reads by the Easter holidays.
Please take a look at the photos below. We have worked extremely hard to plan, draft and publish our own stories based on the excellent book 'Escape from Pompeii.' We also shared them with the reception and Y1 children on World Book Day, which was great fun. Not only will you be amazed with our stories, but you will also get to enjoy the beautiful Claude Monet style paintings too.
Spring Term 2
'Angry Earth' English and theme work
This term we will have two mini outcomes: creating a picture book based on 'Escape from Pompeii' and fundraising to raise awareness and money for Water Aid. These projects will also bring in all of our art, geography, computing and history learning over the term. As developing Year 4 writers, we will also work hard to improve our editing and proofreading skills to produce an excellent story full of Year 4 grammar features, which will be sent home for you to enjoy.
As well as trying to secure our times table and division facts for the 6, 7 and 9 times tables, we will be focusing our learning on measure and geometry. We will be applying these skills to develop our fluency, reasoning and problem solving.
This term our P.E. topics are netball (outdoor) and gymnastics (indoor). Please make sure children have their full P.E. kits in school every day, as PE sessions are occasionally subject to change.
It is expected that children read at least three times a week at home in order to meet the 50 reads challenge. Reading missions will be checked every Monday in school.
Children will also be expected to consolidate their weekly maths skills on IXL to consolidate their learning in class.
Every term children will be set a topic based project to engage them with our new topic and inspire them to learn more outside of the classroom.
