Welcome to our phonics page

All our staff have been trained in Read, Write Inc Phonics.

We use the fully de-codeable Read, Write Inc reading scheme with our pupils.

We are working closely with the Witham St Hughes English Hub.

Early Reading

As parents and carers, you have the biggest influence over your child's early reading development.

The teaching of reading starts from birth!  You can instill a love of books in your children by playing with sounds and words, rhyming, reading to your child and sharing books with them from a very early age.

When children first come into school in EYFS (pre-school & Reception), we build on the skills they already have to develop their reading.

We continue to read to children and share books with them on a regular basis in addition to using phonics to teach the mechanics of reading.

The Government states that all primary schools must follow a highly structured, progressive phonics framework for the teaching of reading, with the emphasis being on phonics.

At Caistor Primary School we follow Read, Write Inc.

Phonics at Caistor Primary School

At Caistor Church of England and Methodist Primary School, we want every child to be a reader. We believe it is the most important thing they will learn at school and we strive to ensure that every child leaves Key Stage One a confident, fluent reader. We have recently introduced the Read Write Inc. programme to teach phonics. This is a rigorous, systematic programme that is taught in daily, structured sessions, as well as being used throughout the school day in all areas of the curriculum when reading and writing. Each child is assessed every half term and placed in the group where they will make the most progress.

Each year, we hold an information workshop around our teaching of phonics and how parents can support their children at home.

Use the Ruth Miskin links below for more information and guidance for parents. Please contact us if you require any further support.
