At Caistor Church of England and Methodist Primary School, we believe that our pupils have a voice and a valuable contribution to make to our school. Our pupils are given opportunities to express their views; they are listened to and encouraged to take an active part in promoting the aims and objectives of our school.

What is the Student Council?

Our Student Council is made up from 2 pupils from each class in KS1 and KS2. At the beginning of each school year our pupils hold an election when they can vote for their new student councillors can from each class.

Why do we have a Student Council?

Our Student Council is here to guarantee our pupils have a voice; it ensures that each class has a platform to voice pupil opinions. Pupils have the opportunity to suggest improvements for the school which, wherever possible will implemented.

How the School Council is run?

We have a very active Student Council with pupils from years 1 to 6 representing each class. At the beginning of the school year, each member is elected by his/her classmates after a short presentation when the candidate explains why he/she should be elected. Our pupils then follow the principles of a democratic society to elect our new Student Council.

Our Student Council is run and led by our pupils, is supported by Mrs Kent and takes an active role in making decisions and suggestions on behalf of the pupils in our school. Members of the Council meet fortnightly to organise fund raising events, discuss issues related to the curriculum and take suggestions from their fellow pupils. 

What do we do in the Meetings?

Each Councillor meets with his/her class to discuss ideas, possible changes and improvements to be made to our school. The issues are then raised in the meetings and Councillors then discuss how to move forward with these ideas. Surveys are carried out and votes within classes are counted so that each class's opinions are represented. They are then fed back to the Student Council and the majority is taken forward. External charity fundraising is arranged by the Student Council throughout the year and many charities have benefitted from our support.
